Task Crate Co-Founder Awarded Male Mentor of the Year!
Written on September 6, 2011 by admin
This past August the 2014 Coronado New Pathways program wrapped up our first year. The New Pathways program is funded and facilitated by Phoenix Youth at Risk, and if you or someone you know has ever thought about mentoring a youth it is a fantastically fun and rewarding program for everyone involved.
I can personally attest to the benefits of the program. Although I volunteered a little time each week over the course of the year to mentor a youth I couldn’t help noticing how much I grew as a person and professional over the year. I guess it was a noticeable impact because it turned out I was selected by our youth and fellow mentors as the 2010/2011 Coronado New Pathways Male Mentor of the Year.
I remember thinking as I accepted the award that it definitely would not have been possible without each of the youth, mentors, mentor coaches and facilitators involved in the program. Watching each youth grab hold of the tools we use in the program and take hold of their own future coupled with the genuine, caring, fun and loving mentors and program facilitators that I was fortunate enough to work with definitely helped me to be the best I could be during the past twelve months.
When you’re in an environment, surrounded by good people striving for change and running down infinite possibilities there is no way you can come out the other end unaffected. That is why I look at this acknowledgement as a token of our team effort and an accolade symbolizing a wonderful group of adults and youth coming together to bring out the best in each other.
The 2014 Coronado New Pathways program definitely helped bring out the best in me. It’s an exciting, warm and entertaining environment for you to set your fears aside, set your sites on the moment, spread your wings and let all the wonder and goodness that makes you who you are shine unabashed!
If you’ve ever been told you would make a good mentor or you’ve thought about mentoring yourself or know someone that is even the slightest bit interested in mentoring a youth, please reach out to me or Phoenix Youth at Risk. We’re changing lives one relationship at a time and I know this is an organization with programs that make mentoring one of the most enjoyable things you can do with your time.
