Meta Tag Description Length – Three Simple Optimization Tips

Written on September 27, 2011 by admin

You want your information fast eh? Let’s dig right in then.

1. Meta Description Tag Length
Shoot for 150 to 155 characters including spaces. Google typically displays up to 155 characters. Drop it down to 150 if your entire description does not fit. Using the maximum amount of characters ensures that your description displays in at least two lines on Google. This gives your result more space on the page, increased clickthrough rates and pushes your competition further down the page.

2. Google Supplemental Listings
If you’re extra savvy you’ll investigate, “Google supplemental listings.” You may have noticed some domains in Google results get two listings, with the second spot being indented a bit. These are Google supplemental listings or “indented listings.” Take some time to educate yourself on some tips that can help you create your own indented listings and secure even more valuable space on those results pages for your website.

3. Three to Four Line Google Descriptions
If you’re super-duper-extra savvy you’ll investigate how optimizing for longer search terms (more keywords in your search term) can get you three to four lines in your Google listing description.

It’s all about capitalizing on that valuable Google organic search space. Investigate these tips, expand the display of your listed result and push your competition a little further down the page!
