10. Quality Time – As if evenings and weekends weren’t enough, you get to spend 24/7 next to the sweet, loveable, darling you vowed to stand by through thick and thin… THICK and THIN! Just keep telling yourself, “thick and THIN!”
9. Who’s the Boss – At least now you’re getting paid to take orders from your significant other.
8. The Better Half – You quickly find out why you were only half a man before you met her and why you need ten more just like her to run a business on your own!
7. Time Management – Now doctor visits and soccer practice with the kids are combined with marketing meetings and strategic planning. This gets you to the weekend and a cold beer a lot faster.
6. Budgeting – Now she understands why that $250.00 visit to the hairstylist could return over ten-fold in AdWords spend.
5. Budgeting Part II – Now I understand why that $250.00 trip to the hair salon can return over ten-fold in a new marketing contract with the salon owner.
4. As if I even need a reason 4 to work with such an amazing woman.
3. Affairs – You get to sleep with your hot co-worker without repercussion.
2. Stress Management – You can tell the boss how you really feel and still have a job the next day.
1. The Test of Time – If you make it through running a business together, you’ll make it through anything!

You want your information fast eh? Let’s dig right in then.
1. Meta Description Tag Length
Shoot for 150 to 155 characters including spaces. Google typically displays up to 155 characters. Drop it down to 150 if your entire description does not fit. Using the maximum amount of characters ensures that your description displays in at least two lines on Google. This gives your result more space on the page, increased clickthrough rates and pushes your competition further down the page.
2. Google Supplemental Listings
If you’re extra savvy you’ll investigate, “Google supplemental listings.” You may have noticed some domains in Google results get two listings, with the second spot being indented a bit. These are Google supplemental listings or “indented listings.” Take some time to educate yourself on some tips that can help you create your own indented listings and secure even more valuable space on those results pages for your website.
3. Three to Four Line Google Descriptions
If you’re super-duper-extra savvy you’ll investigate how optimizing for longer search terms (more keywords in your search term) can get you three to four lines in your Google listing description.
It’s all about capitalizing on that valuable Google organic search space. Investigate these tips, expand the display of your listed result and push your competition a little further down the page!

So you’re new to pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, you’ve opened a Google AdWords account, stuffed it with a test budget, selected your keywords, optimized your ad content and linked it up to your home page…
If you just heard the sound of a record skipping and the party coming to a complete halt, that’s because you’ve just made one of the most common mistakes rookie PPC advertisers make. Never mind your keyword selection and knowing enough about ad-spend to give your ads a decent shot at clickable impressions; you just got a click and you sent the visitor to your home page rather than an optimized landing page.
What can you do to quickly correct the mistake?
1. The visitor clicked your ad because s/he related to the keywords you diligently placed in the title and body of the AdWords ad. You did diligently craft your ad content, right? Make sure the visitor clicks through to a unique, optimized landing page created specifically to field traffic from your AdWords ad. Craft the title of the page to match your ad content. Make sure images help to accompany the ad message on your unique landing page. If you use video make sure the video covers the ad message. And, most of all make sure the content of the landing page jives with your ad content. The first thing a visitor should see when the landing page loads is the title of your ad repeated In a bold heading. Keep it simple. Keep it quick and drive that visitor from click to page view to checkout as efficiently as you possibly can.
2. The visitor also clicked your ad because you had a compelling offer… right? You did give the visitor a reason to click your AdWords ad after all, didn’t you? If not work on your ad content and make sure it compels a click; special offer, coupon, discount, free information, free trial, free sample, free account, etc. Once a searcher is compelled to click on a unique message you cannot afford to send them to your home page to navigate to the specific product or offer in your ad. Return to step one and make sure the page s/he lands on is unique to the ad. Make sure your landing page content gets right to the point following up with the ad content and elaborating on the offer. Failure to send visitors from that ad to a specific page that will pickup on the offer and support the conversion from visit to sale will result in high exit rates and a costly AdWords budget.
That’s a start. Understanding the relationship between search terms (keywords), ad content and an optimized landing page will put you miles, months, dollars ahead of many others launching their first AdWords campaign. Aside from really understanding the right keywords to bid on, sending visitors to a home page rather than a unique landing page designed specifically for each of your AdWords ads is a very common mistake.
The understanding that you need to craft unique landing pages to support your AdWords ads is now in your possession. Now it’s time to create those landing pages or hire a qualified design/marketing team to help you achieve your advertising goals.
Always Happy to Help,
Brian

This past August the 2014 Coronado New Pathways program wrapped up our first year. The New Pathways program is funded and facilitated by Phoenix Youth at Risk, and if you or someone you know has ever thought about mentoring a youth it is a fantastically fun and rewarding program for everyone involved.
I can personally attest to the benefits of the program. Although I volunteered a little time each week over the course of the year to mentor a youth I couldn’t help noticing how much I grew as a person and professional over the year. I guess it was a noticeable impact because it turned out I was selected by our youth and fellow mentors as the 2010/2011 Coronado New Pathways Male Mentor of the Year.
I remember thinking as I accepted the award that it definitely would not have been possible without each of the youth, mentors, mentor coaches and facilitators involved in the program. Watching each youth grab hold of the tools we use in the program and take hold of their own future coupled with the genuine, caring, fun and loving mentors and program facilitators that I was fortunate enough to work with definitely helped me to be the best I could be during the past twelve months.
When you’re in an environment, surrounded by good people striving for change and running down infinite possibilities there is no way you can come out the other end unaffected. That is why I look at this acknowledgement as a token of our team effort and an accolade symbolizing a wonderful group of adults and youth coming together to bring out the best in each other.
The 2014 Coronado New Pathways program definitely helped bring out the best in me. It’s an exciting, warm and entertaining environment for you to set your fears aside, set your sites on the moment, spread your wings and let all the wonder and goodness that makes you who you are shine unabashed!
If you’ve ever been told you would make a good mentor or you’ve thought about mentoring yourself or know someone that is even the slightest bit interested in mentoring a youth, please reach out to me or Phoenix Youth at Risk. We’re changing lives one relationship at a time and I know this is an organization with programs that make mentoring one of the most enjoyable things you can do with your time.
Sincerely,

1. Choose Your Keywords Wisely - Just because you built a website does not mean you’re going to come up in Google. The best recommendation I can make in regards to choosing keywords is a long-tail strategy. Choose the keywords your competitors are not optimizing for. There are plenty of search terms out there to get your website ranking for. Make sure you talk to someone who can help you identify the keywords to optimize your site for before you get knee-deep in design and development.
2. Qualify Your Web Design Team - Make sure you don’t simply pick a designer within your budget. In fact a lot can go wrong simply because you did not invest in a knowledgeable, experienced and reputable web design team. Know what questions to ask prospective design firms in advance and avoid selecting a designer if they do not offer professional-looking, custom design, SEO-friendly coding and navigation and some suggestions in regards to marketing your site. There are too many design firms out there that can help you with design, development and marketing, do not sell yourself short selecting a cheap, inexperienced designer simply because your budget is forcing you to. Make sure you consult with a professional in regards to qualifying your design team before you select one.
3. Have a Marketing Strategy – You just spent a lot of your advertising budget building a sweet website but what happens if you fail to market it? Most businesses launch a site with the hope of it getting listed on the first page of Google search listings. Make sure you have a clear vision of where you want the site to be and how you’re going to get it there before you build a website. If you don’t, chances are the site will sit there in obscurity until you get that marketing plan Continue reading! »
